i <3 autumn

16 Sep

I should start off by saying that I did make all my lunches for the week for the second week in a row and I, again, feel like a million bucks.  This is starting to get good, people.

I also made some matzoh ball soup for tomorrow evening, but I’ll confess 100% here that it was straight out of the box.  I tried homemade once and the taste was great but the matzoh balls weighed 80 pounds.

Organization and lack of actual cooking aside, I was in an amazing mood today.  I think I know why.

Fall is coming (or is unofficially here, some might argue) and it makes me sooo happy.  To all of my summer-lovin’, beach-going friends: I’m sorry!!! I like an 80 degree day as much as the next person but there is just something about the fall that I can’t get enough of.

I love… the crispness in the air, getting to pull out sweaters and plaid (I just purchased this jacket and can’t wait to wear it – I feel like a fashionable lumberjack and I LOVE it), boots with chunky socks, all things pumpkin, everything related in any way to Halloween and Thanksgiving, apple and pumpkin picking, spooky hay rides (I don’t know if I’ve actually been on one but the idea that I COULD do that during the fall excites me), any and all seasonal cuisine and the list goes on.

[Unofficial poll: can we start legit saying autumn in place of fall and getting away with it?  I know the answer is no so I’m just going to hang my head and stand in the corner.]

Maybe this is harkening back to school days, but I also feel like the fall is a time of reflection and renewal.  While New Year’s Eve is technically the time many make resolutions, many of us used to running on a September to June calendar know when the year really starts, and I think that has stayed with me.

Before we know it, winter will be here and I’ll be complaining left and right.  In the meantime, hows about I just take a bite out of this pumpkin bread to shut me up until then.
