DIY, crafty-time!

SO, I decided to actually follow through with one of the ideas I’d seen on Pinterest and turn something into a chalkboard.  FUN!  I opted for a frame.  I wanted to paint the glass with chalkboard paint and then frame it for use as a grocery/to do/catch-all list to hang outside my kitchen.  I can’t remember where I first saw this idea or an iteration of this idea, but I thought it was neat.

Now, full disclosure time. Up to this point, the extent of my craft skills starts with pom-poms and doilies on construction paper at age 5 and ends not too far down the spectrum with a smattering of scrapbooking which I have dabbled in for the past year or two…not much different than pom-poms and doilies on construction paper, to be fair.

I went to Michael’s and purchased the necessary items.  I always feel a mixed sense of serenity and excitement when I cross the threshold at Michael’s and have wanted to make more time for crafting SO there I crouched with the following…

I was THRILLED to get this frame on sale for 40% off PLUS a 15% off all items coupon.  WHAT WHAT!!

My glamorous spread attracted some attention in the hallway.  I decided to paint outside of our condo and  was delighted when my outgoing three-ish year old neighbor came flying down the hallway asking “What are you doing?…Can I paint with you?”

After round 1, I got the hang of things.

After Round 2 and 3, I felt like Picasso’s long lost relative and left my masterpiece for the 24 hour drying period when the final product would be revealed.

Now…here we are. 24 hours later. I excitedly pull the newspaper from the glass and get ready for the next step. I identify a few “bald” areas but decide “hey, it doesn’t have to be perfect.”

Now! The exciting part – to test it out.

Wait, a hot minute.

Do we have any chalk?

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

I clearly thought through this. We don’t have any chalk.

Isn’t that just a thing people have? Chalk?

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

And so we all wait with bated breath.

To be continued…
